HEIC to JPG

iPhone photos that will not open on Windows or Android just need to be JPG. Decoding happens on your machine, so the photos never leave your device.

About HEIC

What is HEIC?

It is the photo format Apple has used by default since iOS 11, roughly half the size of JPG at the same quality. The trade-off is compatibility: Windows and some Android devices have no built-in decoder.

Does converting lose quality?

Converting to JPG re-encodes with loss, but at the highest quality level it is basically invisible. Pick PNG to avoid a second round of compression entirely, at the cost of a noticeably larger file.

How do I make my iPhone shoot JPG directly?

Open Settings, go to Camera, choose Formats, and switch High Efficiency to Most Compatible. New photos will be JPG, but the HEIC files you already have still need converting.

Why is the first conversion slow?

The HEIC decoder has to load into the browser first, a few megabytes, and only on first use. After that conversions are instant.
